Leon Taylor was born and raised in Memphis Tennessee. He attended Hamilton High School from the 1st to the 12thGrade where he excel in Mathematics, Mechanical Drawing, and Wood Shop. While attending Hamilton High, he was a member of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. To help support himself in high school, he worked odd jobs in his community and was a evening newspaper carrier where he earned the title “carrier of the month” many times.
After graduating from high school, Leon relocated to Los Angeles, California to attend Los Angeles Trade Technical College where he was placed on a list to be contacted later due to his out of state residency. To support himself during this time (while living with relatives) he filled out applications for various Civil Service Jobs and was eventually interviewed by the LA County Department of Building Services and received the position of Custodian in the new LA County Court House and later earned a promotion as window washer in the LA County Civic Center. After 10 years, he became an animal control officer with the Department of Animal Care and Control in Downey, California, and was later promoted to Animal License Inspector. While working for LA County, he took classes and studied Real Estate Law and Practices and Real Estate investments. Those classes encouraged Leon to invest in land purchases, the purchase of homes and apartments, and flipping properties in the 1970’s. He is a Chartered member of the Minority Apartment Owners Association. Leon retired from LA County after 30 years of service. While working for the county, Leon met and married Jean C. Wilson. They are active members of Bethel AME Church Los Angeles. |
