Rev. Bill Hence, Jr. was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and educated in the Los Angeles Unified School District. After graduating from Manual Arts High School, Rev. Hence went on to receive the Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from California State University, Long Beach. Rev. Hence also earned a Master of Arts from Cal-State Los Angeles; M.Ed. from the University of California, Los Angeles; Juris Doctor from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law, and Masters of Theological Studies from Claremont School of Theology. Rev. Hence is retired as an educator from the Los Angeles school system after forty years. Additionally, Rev. Hence practiced law from 1997 to 2007 in his own private practice, specializing in criminal defense and employment discrimination civil rights.
Rev. Hence, an accomplished musician, song writer and choir director accepted Christ at the age of 15 and began working in the music ministry at the Church of Divine Guidance under the renowned Rev. Dr. Clayton D. Russell, Sr. Rev. Hence worked in music departments at several area churches until he was called to preach in 2010 while at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. Hence was ordained an Itinerate Deacon at the 2014 Annual Conference. Rev. Hence is currently on the ministerial staff of Bethel A.M.E. Church where he works with the Men’s Ministry, under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Kelvin T. Calloway. Rev. Hence married Renee Marie Hence on November 10, 1979. Bill and Renee have one daughter, Nicole, and one granddaughter, Zaakirah. Rev. Hence loves and believes in the scriptures found in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” and Proverbs 3:6, “In all they ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.” |
